Daddy's Little Girl
by Jasmine Steele
Whenever I need someone
You are always there.
Picking me up when
Sometimes I feel I cannot bear.
Never leaving me to deal
with the pain.
Knowing if you were to
Leave me, I would go insane.
You talk to me when
I have no one to talk to.
Lifting my head, saying
"Baby girl, I could hear you.
You have changed in the years
And I have changed too.
Making me believe that I'm
A better person because of you.
When I sin, and the world
Turns it back on me,
You kick the world like Michael
Jackson, yelling out "He, He."
Some girls don't have
A father. You tell them it's okay.
You hold them in your arms
And say,"I'm your father every day."
You are my lord, my God, but
First you are my father.
You are on my side, when I
Can't go on.
You keep my spirits up
When I'm not doing so good.
You know how it could be
When you're living in the hood.
You have always protected
Me and my family.
Like the Disney movie when
The father protected Bambi.
When I feel no love, you open
My eyes to see
That everyone I love is so
In love with me.
So, as I read this poem
I know you are here.
Patting me on my shoulder
Saying, "Great job, dear."
