No Turning Back
by Emelia Montalvo
There's no turning back
He said when she turned to walk away
She shed one tear....
Knowing that once she takes that first step
She won't be able to stop
She had pictured the moment in her head
Over and over again
Thinking it would have been much easier
Walking away was never so difficult
She turned around to look him in the eye
He was watching her
Silently
There was no need for words
The look on his face said everything for him
She closed her eyes
And when she did, she felt his hand touch hers
Looking into her eyes, he said the three words she waited her entire life to hear
"I love you"
Pulling her hand from his
She shed one more tear, and did the impossible
She walked away.
The Insomniac
by Emelia Montalvo
He lies in bed
Awake, aware
His every movement
Noticed
He hears his miserable thoughts
Like a clock, continually
Unable to sleep, unable to dream
His dark, deep, artistic mind keeps calling out
Sweet sedation
Every night passes over him
Laughing at his attempts to dream
Yet
Weeping at them with the uttermost sorrow
He lies in a whisper quiet room
The evil that is sleep
Still has yet to arrive
Silently he closes his eyes
Seeing dark, spinning images
Finally
The lonely, solemn thought of sedation
Shows her face
Sweetly she kisses his lips
He closes his eyes
For the final time
The overwhelming sting of sleep
The dreams
Vivid and profound
When he awakens
He thinks
I cannot wait to taste her sugar-sweet lips again
Silently Waiting
by Emelia Montalvo
Silently waiting,
wishing, hoping,
listening in a whisper quiet room,
listening for what I know will not come.
But listening, I hear a voice,
listening I see his eyes.
Reflected in them, all of my mistakes.
Hand in hand, we sit.
Looking into my eyes,
he forgives all of my mistakes,
without ever saying a word.
Hand in hand, we sit
forgiving mistakes we knew we were making.
We listen
in a whisper quiet room.
We listen
for small words soon to come
and yet,
to love someone means more than just saying it.
