Stone Tower
by Amanda Martinez

I can see off the horizon a tower of
stone. With this cracking smile. I'm
all alone. You used to see me
smiling-now you can't see me. I'm stuck
inside a dream world wondering
who I'm supposed to be.

You say this isn't me-that
I'm putting on a show. Sure, my
life's a circus-as if you didn't know

There's an open door on the far end
of the wall. If I rise to close it-the
floor breaks-I fall.

But you don't see-the smiling
girl that's hidden beneath my skin. As
if I were the fallen alice-forced in
to win.

I had a dream of my own kingdom
made of gold. One look into my
people's eyes-I'm given much hope.
I can see off the horizon-a tower of
stone. Nowadays when I look in the
mirror-I'm not alone.
