Levels of Learning
We offer two levels of college preparatory classes
-- Honors, Regular, and Basics -- designed to challenge and stretch
each student according to her ability.
Honors Classes
Our honors classes are designed to foster analytical thinking and independent
effort. We expect to cover more material, assign more complex problems,
and involve the students in independent work that stretches them beyond
the material covered in the classroom. Unlike many schools that place students
on an inflexible honors track, Notre Dame places students
in honors classes based on their aptitude in each individual discipline
(math, English, science, etc.). This way you can progress at a pace that
is uniquely tailored to YOU.
Regular Classes
These classes are designed to challenge the majority of our students.
Advanced Placement
We offer Advanced Placement test preparation classes in American Studies, American Literature, French, and Spanish IV.
How We Place Students
We place students in courses according to the student's ability. Properly
used, level placement is one way of helping students reach their highest potential
by providing the appropriate level of academic difficulty and challenge in
selected subjects. Before level placements are made, the following factors
are considered: teacher and counselor recommendations, standardized test scores,
previous academic performance, parent consultation, and personal factors (student
motivation, interest, attendance, and study habits.)
